Microsoft is ending support for the Skype messenger on May 5, 2024, redirecting users to the Microsoft Teams platform. According to the company's statement, Skype data will be stored until January 1, 2026, after which it will be automatically deleted. Users can manually export information before this date.

As of May 5, 2024, all Skype features, including video calls, messaging, and file sharing, are available in the free version of Teams. Launched on March 29, 2017, the Teams service offers advanced tools: organizing meetings, managing calendars, and creating communities.

Acquired by Microsoft in 2011 for $8.5 billion, Skype was launched in 2003. The company emphasizes that Teams will become the main communications platform, replacing Skype. Users can automatically transfer contacts and chats to Teams.
