High-ranking representatives from China, Japan, and South Korea held their first trade talks in five years. South Korean Minister of Industry Park Duck-gyun, Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hagiuda Yasutoshi, and Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao agreed to "closely cooperate for comprehensive and high-level" negotiations on a free trade agreement between South Korea, Japan, and China. Park Duck-gyun emphasized the need to strengthen the implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). In a joint statement, it was noted that the parties agreed to create a "predictable trading and investment environment." The next meeting of the three countries' ministers will be held in Japan.
