At the Google Cloud Next conference, the company unveiled Firebase Studio — a cloud-based platform for creating mobile and web applications using AI. The platform integrates interface design tools, code writing, and testing capabilities, allowing work directly in the browser without deep technical knowledge. Firebase Studio is built on top of the open-source editor Code OSS.
Users can upload projects from GitHub, GitLab or local devices, choose from 60 ready-made templates, or create an application from scratch through text prompts, images, or sketches. Integration with Gemini, Google's AI system, simplifies routine tasks such as documentation writing, error correction, dependency management, and testing scenarios. The platform supports Java, Python, Go, Node.js, as well as frameworks like React and Flutter.
Participants in the Google Developer Program will receive early access to advanced features including Gemini Code Assist — a set of agents for automating work with Docker containers, refactoring, and testing. During the preview phase, regular users have access to three virtual environments, while program members can access up to 30.
Due to high demand, access to some functions is limited — Google has opened a waiting list. It is expected that Firebase Studio will occupy a niche among tools for startups and small teams where speed and minimal infrastructure costs are crucial.
