Huawei and China Unicom launched the first 10G network in the Shunyan area of China based on a 50G PON solution. This has increased bandwidth to 10 Gbit/s and reduced latency to 3 ms. The measured download speed was 9834 Mbit/s, while upload speed was 1008 Mbit/s. One of the first users noted: “Previously, downloading a 4K film took several minutes, but now it takes just seconds.” In Beijing, the download speed reached 9340.22 Mbit/s, and upload speed was 6311.59 Mbit/s. Using gigabit access to download an 8K movie (approximately 90 GB) would take about 12 minutes, while with 10G it takes just 72 seconds.
