This morning, a powerful M-class solar flare was detected on the Sun, almost reaching the maximum X level, as reported on the website of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy IKI and ISZF. M-class flares can cause moderate radio interference and minor geomagnetic disturbances when directed at Earth, while X-class flares can provoke full-fledged magnetic storms. Earlier, an active center on the Sun (region #4055) caused a sharp increase in flare activity. The magnetic storm, reaching a peak close to G4, covered Earth on the night of Thursday, April 17, illuminating the aurora over Tatarstan, Moscow region, Pskov, Arkhangelsk, Sverdlovsk and Leningrad regions.
